Relief Stitches/Post Stitches

I was working on a new diagram when on the 8th row I realized that I wasn't doing it right.....I looked closely again at the diagram I am following and noticed that there are symbols used which are totally new to me::

So I consulted the table from the MyPicot website to know what it means...

The stitches are called Relief Stitches. According to the table, these stitches are worked by taking the hook around the stem (or post) of a stitch.

There are 2 types of relief stitch: the relief front stitch and the relief back stitch.

The relief stitch is also commonly called as post stitch. On patterns they are usually referred to as fpdc (front post double crochet) and bpdc (back post double crochet). I think double crochets are usually used for this type of stitches.

My work actually came out flat::

 

But in the diagram I'm following I noticed that the ones with the relief stitches look like they are on the front of the other (and vice versa).....Obviously, mine isn't...

The idea of the pattern is to create horizontal waves which will be evident only if one will use the relief stitches....

The table I'm using and the pattern and diagram are all from the MyPicot website. It's a very good site for learning stitches at the same time learning how to read crochet diagrams and symbols. You can access the table here....

Well I guess I need to unravel my work and start again....

Test Beginner's Project:: Flowerpower Clip Bookmark

This is another Test Beginner's Project. I called it Flowerpower Clip Bookmark. This bookmark is different from your usual bookmark. The idea is to clip a page in between two bookmarks held together by a pull-out. Sorry for my drawing but here is what I mean...

My Very First Crochet Scarf:: Yey!

I would like to share the very first crochet lace scarf that I made. I'm calling it Sweet Ube Scarf. "Ube" is our term for "violet" and this scarf is getting ready to go to Israel, to my best friend who is working there. Yey! (>‿◠)✌ She's a very sweet friend and very kind and even though we no longer see each other frequently, this scarf will be a reminder of the tie that will bind us together forever. (I'm not a very senti person, am I? lol)

Riding with Christmas

As I was browsing some Facebook and blog posts, I noticed that everyone was already on Christmas spirit....except me...Although I managed to create a small diy Christmas decor (a bouquet of dried flowers put in an old wine bottle and decorated with small sparkling diy stars), i just think that it's not sinking in. Introducing: The Beginner's Block

Today I launched my new blog page:: Beginner's Block. Here I listed some of the blog or web links that helped me in my crochet journey. I'm so excited about this. To be honest I'm not much of a bookmark person. I do not often use browser bookmarks and it's tiring to always search for the same topic on Google. The list of my favorite blogs here helped me with that. But I still want to refine my searching and put it in just one page. I don't want to write it in a notebook nor in a sticky note. I have a really bad habit. So I just decided to make a page on my blog for it! Yey! This will help me from time to time if ever I forgot something about stitching or if I forgot the website or blog post where I got this type of pattern or chart. Things like that.....It's like my backpack has gotten lighter. Now, wherever I go, I'd know where to find my things.

Crochet Art?? Yey!!

I made a Google search for crochet art today and I wasn't disappointed!! :0...These people are so in love with crochet and so so much better than me that I can't wait to be like them!! Oh these wonderful pictures and creations and magnificent imaginations and creative expressions!... My eyes was just so full of 'em and my heart just burst with excitement when I saw these pictures....Here...take your share.... My journey to the crochet world is getting exciting every moment...There are always new things to learn and discover. If you think that crochet is just for clothing and fashion, you're wrong. From these pictures I learned that crocheting plus artistry plus purpose can lead to a grand and unique masterpiece that can contribute to the history of arts, society, and awareness to social or environmental issues. Some of the pieces here are made up of recycled materials, some are made by real artists that has great passion for this type of art works. For me they are great inspiration and my love for this new found passion grew in my heart. I can't wait to make my own masterpiece!
